The energy transition continues to need large amounts of private capital. New power generation capacity will be needed but creating value will shift more to combining different technologies such as onshore wind, batteries and solar PV in order to deliver flexible power that meets the need of more demanding large scale users. But just adding raw clean power will not be enough. the energy transition now also investment to debottleneck the high, medium and low voltage grids. And certain large users are looking at more direct clean energy solutions through private wires. And also biogas is undergoing a revival to decarbonise hard to abate sectors.

Stefan Sielias and Olle Overbosch will guide you through Achmea IM’s methodology, in which they translate clients’ ESG policies into appropriate policies for their real estate portfolios. In doing so, they will address various challenges, as well as the impact of the portfolio composition, including its geographical allocation. Using the CRREM tool, they will demonstrate how insight into CO₂ pathways and risks helps to steer future-proof sustainability policies. In addition, they will present a practical example of how understanding current building standards in the Netherlands and the United States provides guidance for suitable policies, both now and in the future. Portfolio diversification also appears to require diversification in policy.
