Amundi: Bank of England to hike rates this week

Alessia Berardi, Head of Global Macroeconomics & Emerging Markets Strategy at the Amundi Investment Institute, comments on The Bank of England’s upcoming meeting this Thursday:

'The Bank of England meets on Thursday.  With the economy picking up, less slack in the labour market than anticipated and the situation in the Middle East remaining unchanged, inflation will trend higher in the coming months. For now, the impact on wages remain contained.  The hike we were expecting in Q4 will likely materialise in November. While the market is pricing a full hiking cycle, we think that one or two moves will be enough to protect against potential further impact on the broader economy. Looking forward, as the energy shock fades and growth slows under tighter financial conditions, the BoE will turn to easing in the second half of 2027.'
