Martin Rauchenwald, a Partner at Financial Services Capital (FSC), has been appointed to the Board of Barion, a Hungarian payment provider backed by FSC.

Barion, in which FSC invested in 2020, is one of Hungary’s leading payment providers, having built a proprietary payment services platform that delivers actionable data intelligence. The company enables merchants to accept card payments online, and allows users to pay in over 11,000 online shops using their mobile app as a prepaid wallet and for wire transfers.

Rauchenwald commented:

“FSC continues to support Barion’s development of innovative products and services and is accelerating its European expansion. The next phase of growth will see us drive into new geographic markets as well as rapidly expand our customer base and merchant relationships, and I look forward to joining the Board at this exciting time in the company’s development.”

Rauchenwald joined FSC in 2020 with a 20-year career in the financial services industry behind him. He has held senior management roles, including a number of executive board positions, at UniCredit Group, where he worked across offices in Munich, London, Vienna and Moscow with a focus on growing and restructuring businesses. Martin also co-founded Ithuba Capital AG, a financial markets advisory and technology-enabled portfolio wind-down specialist. After a successful exit, he joined Oliver Wyman as a Partner for financial services to drive the transformation of financial services companies.

Martin graduated from the University of Santander, Spain, and has an MBA specialising in banking and insurance from the Karl Franzens University in Austria.

Sándor Kiss, Chief Executive Officer at Barion, added:

“We are delighted to welcome Martin to the Board of Barion. We have made huge progress over the past 18 months in partnership with FSC and we are now seeking to build our international business further. Martin’s considerable expertise and experience, his track record of developing businesses in new markets and his strong connectivity across the European financial landscape make him an invaluable addition to our team.”
