ING has appointed Mark Pieter de Boer as Global Head of Equity Markets, effective June 1, 2011.

De Boer, who joined ING on January 1 of this year as Head of Western Europe Equities, previously worked at Royal Bank of Scotland as Head of Benelux Equities. There he was rated number 1 Benelux analyst in the prestigious Extel Pan-European Survey 2010. Prior to that, he held various positions, including Head of Equity Research at ABN AMRO.

“Over the past five years, we have strengthened our equities franchise, culminating in clients rating ING number one in the Extel survey in both our home markets of the Benelux and Central and Eastern Europe,” says Diederik van Wassenaer, Global Head of Clients and Corporate Finance & Equity Markets. “This was achieved in the midst of one of the most difficult periods for equities in recent history, and provides a superb platform for Mark Pieter to build on, allowing us to provide best-in-class equity services to our clients.”

In addition, ING has appointed Michael Kaplan as Global Head of Emerging Markets Equities. Michael has over fifteen years experience in capital markets, and specialises in emerging markets. He was Head of North America for five of his six years at ING. “Michael brings strong leadership, deep product knowledge and solid client and corporate relations to his new role” says Van Wassenaer. “This is underlined by the fact that for the past two years Michael was ranked by our clients as the number 1 EMEA sales person globally in the Extel survey.” In his new role, Kaplan will report to Mark Pieter de Boer.
