State Street Global Advisors, (SSgA), the investment management business of State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT),  announced that it has been appointed by Lærernes Pension to manage a US$271 million Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)-screened, passive US Investment Grade Corporate Bond portfolio for the group’s €5.5 billion fund.  Lærernes Pension is the pension and life insurance fund for more than 127,000 Danish teachers.

“We are excited to welcome Lærernes Pension to our growing client base in the Nordic region and are pleased that they recognize the value in SSgA’s ability to provide a tailored solution,” said Benoît Fally, senior managing director at SSgA.

SSgA’s specialist managers have the ability to provide beta exposure through traditional indices as well as customised exposures based on clients’ investment objectives. The group also manages advanced beta strategies that can be used by investors to access hard-to-reach asset classes or to express a tactical view on investor sentiment towards a specific market, sector, region or asset class.

SSgA has deep experience managing both passive and active fixed income investments and is today a dominant global provider with US$469 billion (as of 30 September 2010) in fixed-income assets under management.

“We are keenly focused on providing market exposure to our clients in the most efficient manner while minimising tracking error.  Our approach is also enhanced by a consistent global framework,” added Kevin Anderson, SSgA’s global chief investment officer for Fixed Income and Currency.

Lærernes Pension determined an ESG screen which will be implemented by SSgA.
